- Wyze Cam v4, Cam OG and Pan v2/v3: work only in the Wyze app. There's no local stream, so no other baby monitor app can see them.
- Wyze Cam v3, v2 and Pan v1: maybe, with Wyze's RTSP beta firmware. It's old, unmaintained, and turns off Wyze's AI alerts, so test it before you count on it.
- In the Wyze app itself, crying is one of the sounds Wyze's AI can label, but only with a Cam Plus or Cam Unlimited subscription.
- What works instead: an old phone by the crib tonight, free, or a Tapo C200 (about $25) that works with any monitor app after one setting.
Camera checker:
- Wyze Cam v3, Wyze Cam v2, Wyze Cam Pan v1: Maybe, with Wyze's old RTSP firmware.
- Wyze Cam v4, Wyze Cam OG, Wyze Cam Pan v2, Wyze Cam Pan v3: Won't work. Wyze sends video only through its own cloud.
- Other models: Current Wyze cameras have no local stream; only Cam v2, v3 and Pan v1 had an RTSP beta.

"Test it" means: whether the beta firmware's sound is usable can only be checked on your camera, in about 30 seconds (steps below).
What the Wyze app already does for a baby
Wyze cameras are cheap and capable inside their own app: live view with night vision, two-way talk and sound alerts. With Wyze's AI and a Cam Plus or Cam Unlimited plan, the camera can tell crying from barking, meowing and talking, and notify you.
What you don't get is a screen to sleep next to or a way to hear the room with your phone locked; it's a security app that sends event notifications. If those are enough for you, keep the Wyze app. If not, read on.
Wyze Cam v3: the 30-second test
Wyze once published RTSP firmware for the Cam v2, v3 and Pan v1, "for initial testing only". If you're willing to flash it, here's how to find out whether a baby monitor app can hear your camera:
- Flash Wyze's RTSP beta firmware for your model (from a microSD card), then turn it on: Wyze app › camera › ⚙ › Advanced Settings › RTSP.
- Ask VLC: VLC › Media › Open Network Stream, paste the RTSP address the Wyze app shows, then Tools › Codec Information (Ctrl+J). You want “H264” and “A-law” or “mu-law”.
- Or skip VLC: add it in Mamoon as “Other RTSP camera”. Within seconds it tells you whether the picture and the sound work.
Good to know
- Cam v3, Cam v2, Cam Pan v1: Wyze's RTSP firmware is an old, unmaintained beta, and it turns off Wyze's AI alerts.
The popular docker-wyze-bridge, which used to expose any Wyze over RTSP through a computer, broke for everyone after a Wyze login change in December 2025.
Wyze Cam v4 and Pan v3: what works instead
There is no stream on your Wi-Fi that another app could read: the video goes to the maker's servers and back to the maker's app, even when your phone sits next to the camera.
- Tonight, for free: an old phone. Put it by the crib with Mamoon and it listens for crying, with your phone locked and the sound muted. Keep the Wyze running for the picture in its own app. See the old phone guide.
- For night vision: a Tapo C200. About $25, infrared, pan and tilt, and a local stream any monitor app can use after one setting. See Tapo C200 as a baby monitor.
- Keep the Wyze for the front door or the dog, where its cloud alerts make sense.
Where Mamoon fits: Fastest test: add it in Mamoon. If the picture arrives but the sound is in a format it can't play, it tells you within seconds, and the first 14 days are free either way.
If the test fails, nothing is lost. Two-way talk stays in the maker's app; remember that the beta firmware switches the maker's AI alerts off.
How Mamoon works → $29.99 once, for life, or $3.99 a month with 14 days free · on Google Play now, App Store soon
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a Wyze Cam v3 as a baby monitor?
In the Wyze app, yes. With another baby monitor app, only on Wyze's RTSP beta firmware, which is old, unmaintained and turns off Wyze's AI alerts; whether the sound works for cry detection is a 30-second test.
Can I use a Wyze Cam v4 as a baby monitor?
In the Wyze app, yes: night vision, two-way talk and, with Cam Plus, crying alerts. With any other app, no: the v4 has no local stream, so only Wyze's app can see it.
Does Wyze detect a baby crying?
Yes, with a Cam Plus or Cam Unlimited subscription; Wyze's AI can label crying among other sounds.
Is there a Wyze baby monitor app that works without the cloud?
Not for current Wyze cameras: their video goes only through Wyze's cloud. For a local, no-cloud baby monitor, use a camera with RTSP, like a Tapo, or an old phone.
