Philips Avent SCD891 is a one-off purchase. The Premium Connected model costs about $350 in the US, and its Cry Translation feature becomes a paid subscription after three months.
Mamoon needs no new hardware if you have an old phone. After 30 free days it's $24.99 a year or $3.99 a month, paid only for watching. For a sharp picture in total darkness, add a Wi-Fi camera such as a TP-Link Tapo C200 for roughly $25–35.
Cry detection
A classic monitor plays you every sound in the room. Mamoon analyzes the sound on the phone itself and tells crying and fussing apart from a dog, a door, voices or the washing machine. You choose whether it wakes you for crying only, crying and fussing, or every sound; everything else is in the morning overview. Philips offers cry detection on its Premium Connected model.
Privacy and Wi-Fi
SCD891 doesn't use Wi-Fi at all: the camera and the parent unit talk directly over their own radio link, which is excellent for privacy. Mamoon uses your home Wi-Fi, but the video goes straight from camera to phone: no server, no account, no cloud. The Premium Connected model works with or without Wi-Fi and needs an account for its app.
